Chuppah Creates Reality

A Course for Chuppah Officiants

How do you build and lead a chuppah ceremony?

Taught in Hebrew

A great chuppah is authentic, clear, and well-paced: an experience no one will ever forget.

An exceptional chuppah is where tradition and values meet the love story of the couple standing beneath it. It is a moment every guest feels part of.

In this course for chuppah officiants, Naomi opens her toolbox, from the first meeting with the couple to the breaking of the glass.

You will learn how to get to know a couple in depth (even if you have known them all your life), how to turn their unique personal story into an unforgettable ceremony, and how to stand beneath the chuppah with confidence, charisma, and warmth.

This is a practical course, not a theoretical one, designed to give you hands-on tools for leading Jewish wedding ceremonies.

Four compasses guide the entire course:

Authenticity - The couple feels at home in, and proud of, every word that is spoken.

Rootedness - The ceremony is connected to Jewish tradition and language, in a contemporary and egalitarian way.

Clarity - The guests understand what is happening at every moment and are right there with the couple at the height of their excitement.

Rhythm - The ceremony pulses, breathes, and holds the attention of everyone present.

About Me

My name is Naomi Efrat. I am a Reform rabbi, and for many years I have accompanied couples in creating personal, egalitarian wedding ceremonies. Along the way, I have met couples from almost every background, culture, and identity: entirely secular, traditional, formerly Haredi or formerly religious, LGBTQ+, and trans. Together we have created chuppahs that bridged worlds that sometimes seemed far apart: tradition and freedom, depth and moments of laughter, quiet intimacy and the great joy of guests and family.

I accompany couples through a personal, profound process toward an alternative, egalitarian chuppah ceremony that feels true and right. To me, no two chuppahs are alike. Every wedding is a new story, and every couple brings with them a world of love, values, and dreams.
The couple shapes the ceremony; I am there to help their light shine.

In this course, I have gathered what I have learned from years of leading ceremonies, so that you too can stand beneath the chuppah with confidence.
